'my' kind of a day

...which then means that josh has to not only go along with it, but like it!

Sun, this is something that I was raised with as a child. I mean I had my family and friends, and then there was sun (we are talking about a whole other level here). This was a special kind of relationship right from the start. We were childhood pals, everywhere I went...the sun was sure to follow. Well apparently Sun didn't get the memo about the move to Alaska, and I haven't seen Sun since. I mean yea I was really hurt, I had spent a lot of time on our relationship, even took years off my life from all the tanning, I mean I was REALLY committed to making this work.

And yea I guess you can say that I move on kind of fast, but Cloud is really here for me now. Apparently Sun has been reading the blog and see all the photos of me and 'cloud' haningout in the snow. You could even go as far and say that I was using Cloud to get back at Sun.

So I'll cut to the point, Saturday was bright, sunny, warm (just want to make sure we are all on the same page, warm meaning 30-40's), everything that I love, Sun is back in my life. This is why people live here truly. You walk outside and the sun warms up your face as you open your eyes and see the sky just light up bright blue behind the mountains and plenty of moose for everyone. WE are both really excited for the summer and already see all the changes. The snow is melting, downtown it is almost non-existance,and the sun is up from 6am-10:30pm!

So to switch things up, I decided that we should walk downtown and go to some of the local shops. We even stopped and had a hot dog...oh wait that's waaaayyyy to normal, I mean I had a reindeer sausage(I draw the line at Moose), and we were able to sit in the park and eat it.

Every time I look at a map I can really grasp how far away Josh and I really are from our friends and family. Technology makes us all feel a part of each others lives, and we are so thankful!

...why on earth america decided to be greedy and buy something so far away and call it a state is another story.

Last house on the left

So last week we got about a foot of snow, and of course this came the day after we took all of our snow tires off, I mean it was April, and this whole 'snowing' thing has gone on way to long. A whole new sheet of snow on Anchorage means that I wasn't leaving the house...no more snow boots, parka, or spinning out of control on the ice.

Later that day I heard of weird sound at the front of the house, so I woke up the 'big bad guard dog' from his nap and made him go check things out. Well it turns out that the sound was coming from the front of the house. So I decide to peer out the blinds at our front yard and couldn't believe what was happening!

So apparently I am the crazy lady who lives in the house at the end of the street! As I looked out the window a group of little kids were standing on the opposite side of the street throwing snow balls at our house!

...I mean have a little respect for the Floridian family.

Ghost town

Last weekend we headed up to Palmer, AK with a group of people to go hiking around an old mining town built in the 1930's on the top of a mountain.(This trip is about an hour there, and two back...because of course we will get lost in the mountains) We had so much fun and even brought Kingston. It is getting warmer so you are able to stay outside for longer. However Just because it is spring time here doesn't mean that you won't fall up to your waist in snow while hiking up the mountain...somehow this became something that I was good at.

Outcome

So after getting our tires fixed and plugged we went to the shop to pick them up. The lady at the front desk handed us what they had pulled out of the tire, she hadn't ever seen anything that big in one before...

There is no day like a Monday!

*Warning* What you are about to read is disturbing, and should not be read by anybody who is experiencing the Monday 'blues'.

The Following story takes place in Anchorage, AK around 5am...

...This is based on a true story.

Alarm clock starts going off around 4:30am and I realized that the weekend was sadly over, and this week I would be driving Josh to work around 5am. Chaos struck the house early with two puppies (we are still dog-sitting) running around barking eager to start the day, when all Josh and I could think about it how tired we are. After feeding everyone breakfast and letting them outside to pee (including Josh...hey its Alaska...no I'm just kidding as of now he is still using toilets), left both dogs behind and pulled out of the drive-way.

As of right now this was just a typical Monday morning. The only thing different was that it was a little darker outside because it was so early. Half way to work, with just a simple roll of the tire our day changed. The tire pulled to the left really hard and started to make a loud strange sound. We pulled over right away but because it was so dark we couldn't see anything so we got back inside and headed over to a lit parking lot to check out what had happened. Sure enough, just one glance you could see it. Something so small had gained so much power and had destroyed us. NO I hadn't run over Obama, it was a bolt-nail-screw thingy, and was the size of a quarter. Josh called into work and explained what had happened, we headed home to change the tire and put an end to this madness...but it had only just began.

Once pulling into our driveway we started the process of changing the tire, and this went smoothly, besides the fact that we broke that thing that pushes up the tire, ( technical terms are out the window) and we had to call our friend Carrie to help us out. Well it just so happens that the people that we are dog-sitting for have a CRV and we were able to get a ride to their house, pick up their car and use their 'car lifter thingy'.

After finally getting the tire off, we were about to put the spare on the car when we noticed...that it was deflated. So... Off to the gas station. Fill the spare with air. Off to the house. Put the spare on the car. And FINALLY! ...oh wait that's right, the spare had a hole as well and started to deflate.

So all in all, we had to drag our car to the shop, have them fix both tires, and put our summer tires back on.

Moral of the story and reason for you reading all of this...well I haven't found one yet.

Doggy Day Care...nonprofit

So this week we have the delight to be able to watch Ms Crissy for our friends who flew out to New York for a vaca last night. Crissy is about five months old husky mix, and was adopted from the same place as Kingston.

I couldn't wait to babysit because the more dogs the merrier and Kingston would have a live in friend for the week... this is going to be just like a summer sleep away camp! Josh was less than trilled that I was running a camp in our house, but I assured him that everything would be fine. ('Fine' being used as a vague term)

After getting zero sleep last night (turns out Crissy has a little separation anxiety at nighttime), and having to wake up at 5am to go to work camp wasn't turning into Josh's favorite lifetime moments.

Day One Activities:
-Eating
-Peeing/Pooping
-Peeing
-Peeing
-Peeing (decided to switch things up and pee in the house)
-Peeing
-Peeing
-Peeing/Pooping
-Nap

Okay so this camp is on a low budget...'Day Two' we will be working on sharing our toys.

A Superhero Easter Sunday

Happy Easter!

It has been difficult these last few weeks seeing all the bright sundresses and hats in all the stores, because this morning it was 31 degrees as we drove off to church, but in the end it is nothing that pastel colored M&Ms can't fix...and the hulk!

Well the whole Marvel gang came to celebrate Easter Sunday with us, so actually it was very lively, and busy! I suprised Josh with a Marvel superhero themed egg dye kit, it was either that or Barbie (It was a hard decision because Josh loves them both).

Gaint Squirrels!

Last night Josh and I went out to see the sunset down by the port. It is strange to wait for the sunset till 9pm now, and we are so excited and can't wait to be mowing our lawn at midnight as the sun beats down on us this summer. (Yes this is actually a planned activity and I will film it). Like I was saying, we were going to see the sunset and right as we pulled out of the neighborhood there was a moose on the side of the road. I was driving the car, and immediately started freaking out and yelling, and of course screaming for Josh to take a picture. He didn't even flinch, looked over at me and said, "Are you seriously acting like this, we see moose all the time and you do not need another photo." I couldn't believe this, have moose become like squirrels to us...I couldn't even entertain this thought for more than a second when all of a sudden, "Moose, Moose". (Okay so point proven, they are all over the place, but I will add that this time I took things into my own hands and took a picture.)

Learning to pee on grass

I am for the first time in my life experiencing the season called 'Spring'. Something that I have learned about in classrooms and books, Something I have heard about in stories, and something I only seen in photos and movies. Only in the movies spring happens over night and we all come out of our houses singing and dancing in the streets dressed in bright floral clothes. Well that just doesn't happen...and might I point out I still am dressing in black because it is still 32 degrees! I will need at least 60 degrees to start dancing...I'll actually settle for 50, really.

Spring is more like the transition from Alaska winter to Alaska summer. 30-40 degrees is the new spring, and I don't know if we all are just craving to fit in with the lower 48 but we are all walking around in flip flops and shorts. We sweat at the thought of 50 degrees, and 60...whoa that's a 'hot' summer day!

There is one thing that not even a cold day can take away, and that is when you walk outside and the sun shine's brightly upon your face. You close your eyes and for a second I can even hear the waves crashing into the beach...this dream comes crashing down when I take a step foward and sink into snow...or now what is a muddy cold grass.

All in all the snow is melting, the sun isn't setting til 9pm , and everybody seems a whole lot happier. So I really can't complain.

Those aren't pillows..

Last week sometime I went over to my friend Carrie's house for a day full of art's and crafts. She helped ( and by help I mean she did all the work and I watched and gave moral support) me make several pillows for our couch.

Somehow Kingston thought that we spent all this time and money making him pillows to lick his butt on, so he is pretty happy too! And really it is a win-win because now our couch gets a break from it.
